Ear & Eye Care
Ears
When grooming a dog, always make a point of checking the ears both inside and out. Unpleasant aromas can indicate infection but so can the way in which a dog holds its head.
If your pet constantly shakes his head or scratches his ears he may have an ear infection, mites or a grass seed in his ear and you should take him to the vet for diagnosis. It is important that ear problems are treated quickly to avoid them becoming persistent.
Keep ears dry and do not let your pet swim if he is prone to ear trouble, it is also important to clean your dog's ears with ear cleaning solution or ear wipes.
Ear mite infections commonly occur in puppies and kittens and will cause a build-up of black wax in their ears. If you look carefully, you may be able to see the tiny mites. These can be treated with ear mite drops.
Eyes
Dog's eyes should be wide open with a clear and moist surface and there should be no excessive watering of the eye. Occasionally a dried-on black discharge in the corners of the eye represents the overflow of a grey mucoid material. You can keep your dog's eyes clean by using an eye lotion or wipes.
