How to measure your dog

Back MeasurementIt is important to measure your dog before purchasing any garment, due to the variation of coats and jackets available. You should take into account the specific material of each coat or jacket as this can also make a difference to the fit.

Measuring should be done along the "top line" of the dog, this is along the dog's backbone from where the collar lies to where the tail is attached. It is also important to consider the dog's girth, different breeds of dogs will require a larger coat/jacket to fit around the chest.

Chest MeasurementMeasuring the chest should be done at the widest point, usually this is right behind the front legs. It would be recommended that if a dog has a large girth to choose the next size up in the top line measurement.

Measuring for collars

Collar MeasurementWhen choosing a collar for your dog, measure the widest part of your dog's neck and add two inches. A correctly fitting collar should easily allow you to put two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck.

Check carefully under the collar on a regular basis for redness or hair loss caused by an ill-fitting collar. Remember that puppies and kittens grow fast and their collars will need adjusting or replacing regularly.
