Training & Education

All dogs chew, as this is natural behaviour, although in some cases destructive behaviour can become a problem. Destructive behaviour may be caused by a variety of reasons including boredom, frustration, attention seeking or possibly anxiety. It is essential that you identify the cause of the chewing and then provide your pet with a selection of appropriate toys and activities to occupy them. Select toys from our range which occupy your dog and reward the behaviour of chewing by dispensing food. Dogs are scavengers and given the opportunity will instinctively seek and hunt for their food.

Many of our toys allow you to place a proportion of your dog’s daily allowance of food inside, which then provides great stimulation and activity as they work to get their food out of the toy. Chewing is particularly common with puppies as it helps relieve painful gums during teething and helps them develop a strong jaw. Never punish puppies for chewing, just make sure you train them to understand what is acceptable and unacceptable to chew. Plenty of praise when they chew toys should soon have them trained not to chew the furniture!

Kongs:

Kongs are made with a natural rubber that has remarkable elasticity to withstand even the toughest chewers. The smell and taste encourages chewing and the unique shape has an unpredictable bounce that appeals to a dog’s hunting instincts. The hollow shape means Kongs can be stuffed with food, treats and paste to keep your dog entertained for hours. These boredom breakers can be given straight to your pet or frozen to make the job even harder.

Available in a variety of sizes, the Kong is also available in a puppy version. Even though it is as durable as the adult version, the Puppy Kong has a special teething formula which makes the rubber softer for young, brittle teeth. Should your pup suffer with teething pains, the Puppy Kong can also be placed in the fridge to offer welcome relief.

Treat Balls:

Treat balls appeal to dog’s foraging instincts and can provide hours of mental and physical stimulation. Once filled with their favourite treats, these balls can be played with for hours on end, dispensing treats each time your dog rolls the ball. Treat balls are a popular toy if your dog spends time alone as they will not only keep your pet entertained, they will also provide a tasty treat along the way.
