Dumbo Rat

Dumbo Rats make great pets, are very friendly and rarely bite; as their name suggests they have large ears as their most distinct characteristic. They require a large cage but are straight forward to care for. They make great fun pets for children and adults alike, they can be trained to do tricks and after time will learn their own name just like dogs and cats. Male rats tend to be bigger but more docile, more suited to younger children. Dumbo Rats on average live between 2-3 years.

Dumbo Rat

Product Description:

Dumbo Rats make great pets, are very friendly and rarely bite; as their name suggests they have large ears as their most distinct characteristic.

They require a large cage but are straight forward to care for. Rats get a bad press but can make great fun pets for children and adults alike, they can be trained to do tricks and after time will learn their own name just like dogs and cats.

Male rats tend to be bigger but more docile so are probably more suited to younger children than the smaller and quicker female.

Rats are natural scavengers and gnawers and will chew and eat virtually anything. Inquisitive creatures, rats love to explore having the ability to find their way through a maze after having explored it only once. With encouragement and hand fed treats, rats can also be trained to perform tricks.

Dumbo Rats should be fed a specific dry rat food in either an extruded nugget providing complete nutrition or a mix supplemented with additional supplements.

I bought two lovely female rats last October (a siamese sealpoint and a blue/white hooded). They weren't that well handled but the environment was clean and they seemed as happy as could be. I have been much happier with the treatment/care of them at P.A.H than some other pet shops I have been to.

I bought two Dumbo rats at the beginning of August last year. Considering every other rat I have bought from a pet store has had health problems and temperament issues, these pair have been behaving well, are very tame and friendly and have had no health problems so far apart from Suki. Suki is our Siamese seal point and she weaves... this is not a major issue. Overall they have been fab!
