Salary and benefits
At Pets at Home we believe in offering competitive pay and benefits that grow as you grow and develop your skills. Our pay review is in May each year.
In stores, our policy is to pay above minimum wage. As our pay review happens in May, we benefit from 6 months before minimum wage increases in October each year. Our hourly rate of pay for Team Members is £6.15 per hour*. We insist that in order to deliver the levels of service our customers require all store colleagues pass Step 1 and Step 2 of our Steps for Success training program. Colleagues who want to further develop their knowledge of animals and further support their colleagues in store can study Step 3 and upon successful completion of this programme receive a further 40p an hour.
In addition to basic salary, store colleagues also receive team bonus based on sales, Mystery Shopper results and various ad-hoc incentives that we run from time to time. This bonus pot is banked quarterly and paid out in April each year. Store Management also receive bonus based on the store’s bonus pot.
For Store Management actual salary will depend upon experience and geographical location however our starting rates are as follows:
Assistant Manager – from £14,900 - £17,000
Deputy Manager – from £16,500 - £23,700
Store Manager – from £20,500 - £36,000
At our National Distribution Centre the starting rate for warehouse colleagues is £6.66 per hour but there are two further rates depending on the type of work undertaken.
Head Office salaries are dependant upon the role and the individual’s experience but are competitive to the appropriate market rates.
