My name is Steve, and I am the manager of the Pets at Home in Blackpool. I joined the company in August 2006, after a brief spell working in supermarkets and 12 years working for Woolworths.
After completing an 8 week manager’s training programme, and having the opportunity to work in all areas of the store, I was appointed as manager in Blackpool.
What you soon find out is that 2 days are never the same in Pets at Home, as it is a fast moving company, with 20 new stores opening each year and with fantastic career opportunities.
We have a small team in Blackpool, with a good mix of experience and knowledge in all the different pets, which really helps especially being new to the company!
The company has some exciting plans for the future, with new store formats products and pets! Pets at Home was definitely the right career move for me.

I have been with PAH for 3 years already. How time flies when you are having fun!
Moving to PAH was the best move I ever made. My career has progressed so quickly, faster than it would have ever done with my previous company, Tesco. I have always been within the retail sector but been pet mad having 3 retrievers and 2 cats. Being able to combine the two was like a dream come true. The most exciting thing for me is that I was looking forward to being able to be creative along with my passion for pets. Passing this on to my fellow team members makes it even better.
The training that was provided during my first 3 months with the company was really structured and well planned out. Even though I had kept my own pets there were still quite a few areas for concern but the training programme that was provided really put my mind at ease and covered any areas I wasn't sure on.
The company values are a very important part of the business at Pets at Home, as everyone works to the company values. They are very simple but they are very true to life in the things that are set out in our daily routines. I am now a store manager and have a great team who take a lot of pride in the customer service offered along with the knowledge and advice given to our customers. The buzz we all experience is from knowing the customer is leaving our store happy and that they are able to look after their pet and give it the best possible care.
There are so many different events that go on in store it never becomes dull or boring. You and your team are able to add your own personal touches, which makes it so much fun.
Currently going on in store is Get Set for Summer where children can come and experience the pet routines in store along with some workshops were they can learn things about their pet. Being able to combine this along with a normal days work is so rewarding. The kids love it and so do the staff!
