I have a125 litre tank and have used this product since starting up the tank and is a good indication if something is not right with the water quality try and do the tests around the same time the water can change at different times of the day/night I have had this tank 6+ years and have had my problems as I learned along the way but found that if you have good quality water for the fish you are keeping the tank is easily maintained and this product has been invaluable and has saved me from losing a lot of fish the only thing is its 35 pound and I have been able to get it a lot cheaper

I had this kit free with a tank I bought a year ago and I have purchased another since (went out of date). The test is accurate but there is some guesswork but imho if you're getting readings of anything it's too high anyway so it's no object really except for PH but even then it doesn't take chemistry genius to work it out. The prices of these are fair although it's very over priced in most chain shops. I have 6 tanks running at any given time and the kits last me long enough to go out of date (1 year after opening) but I find this is it's downside and the reason I wouldn't buy the ones that are around £60-£100.

I'd highly recommend this product to fellow fish keepers.

This product is easy to use and it is reasonably good value for money. I'd say it's accurate but as another reviewer said, the increments it goes up in aren't small enough but with a bit of imagination, you can make a reasonably good guess at what the levels might be. For instance, the ammonia test goes from zero to 0.25 in one step; zero is yello and 0.25 is light green but if you have a colour that falls some way between the two you can make an educated guess depending on the colour closest to the one on the card. I mean, for the price you pay it really isn't hard to use the brains you were born with and make a decent guess. If you think you can't do this buy a dip-kit instead.

Compared to what else is on the market the API Master Test Kit is reasonably priced and quite good value for money, as long as you can live with its' shortcomings!

I have found that it tends to read high and is very inaccurate at low concentrations, particularly when measuring ammonia. For example, my tank water measurements for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates (with the API kit) came out at: 0.25; 2 and 40ppm respectively. When checked with a more expensive kit the readings were: <0.05; 0.7 and 25ppm respectively and these readings were verified using a third kit from a different manufacturer. The ammonia scale on API goes from 0 to 0.25 in one step, whereas others go in 0.1 steps, thus giving a better scaling.

The API kit is fine for indicating sudden shifts in tank chemistry but in my experience I have found that others are better for absolute accuracy; the down side being that the others tend to be more expensive - you really do pay your money and take your choice!!

Very good. I did not pay this price for it originally so I dont think that this is value for money necessarily but remember you only buy this perhaps once a year.

Ensure that you shake the second nitrate bottle vigorously or you will get false results. Remember most people do not have 0 nitrates in their tap water.
I have found ammonia and nitrite results accurate and easy to read. Many people online will promote the use of these liquid tests rather than strips for example.
