Fell apart during use

My first pet carrier was an Atlas, chosen for the wire top so I could see in and he could see out. It lasted well until one day he accidentally caught it as he ran past and the top catches simply broke off, leaving it with no wire top or handle. The wire had also begun to rust, the paint had worn away leaving the wire exposed.

I replaced it with another one the same as it is what we were used to, and it is still fine although I do worry about the weight of the pet being too much for the carrying handle which is attached to the wire top, it doesn't seem to be quite strong enough to instil 100% confidence.

I then needed another carrier so bought the same one again. This one has not lasted well, it has been used about half a dozen times and one of the clips began to come unfastened during a recent vet trip. I thought at first that it had got caught in something and come undone so popped it back on, but it happened again when leaving the vet, and the base of the carrier was hanging off in the street.

On arriving home and checking, I found that all the clips have become loose and will not stay clipped on to the base. This is clearly a problem with the clips, as I removed them and replaced them with the ones from the old broken Atlas, and these stay closed. However, after almost losing my cat in the street, i am not sure I will be using these carriers again.

Pets At Home Response: Hi, many thanks for your review. We have passed your comments onto the manufacturer and have received the following response:
"We have manufactured this product for a number of years and have never come across an instance of the clips on the top of the wire top opening being dislodged by an animal running past. The clips are secured flat against the top of the carrier. In relation to the rusting, this does not normally happen and without further details or photos we are unable to determine the age of the carrier. Lastly, I can confirm the 4 side clips are very secure if fitted correctly. It is important that the customer correctly lines up the top and bottom of the carrier, before closing the clips."

The carrier was perfect for my kitten when she was small however now she has grown to a full adult cat she no longer fits into it and so I am going to have to buy another larger carrier. I also found it uncomfortable to carry and the plastic clips holding the handle to the metal roof also feel like they are poorly made and will break easily. If you want my advice it is fine for smaller pets but if like me you need something for a cat or large rabbit then invest in a bigger carrier as it will last longer!

I bought this for my two rabbits to take them to the vet and other places. They like it in their pen to hide in aswell. But it gets heavy with big pets inside.

We bought this to take our rabbit to his vet appointments as we found most of the "small animal" carriers much too small for anything bigger than a very small rabbit. It is a good size, very sturdy and the removable pad at the bottom is a great feature, comfortable and easy to remove and wash if he has an "accident" on the journey (we just stick it in the washing machine and let it dry flat to keep it's shape).
The top opening grill is a stroke of genius. It locks securely but is fairly easy to open and is big enough to get my hands in the top and safely around my rabbit to pick him up (as he tends to "apply the brakes" when we try to coax him out of the front-opening door at the vets). The little attached food bowl is also great if you're going on more than a short journey as it's important rabbits don't go too long without eating.

I'm sure this would be great for a cat too, though I'd say it was too small for anything bigger than a small puppy!

I used to have a cheap cat carrier but when I took my Fudge to the vets and he was fitted with a collar because he had a skin infection myself and the vet had to squeeze him into the box because he is such a large cat (big boned and slightly overweight) the poor thing barely fit so I decided as soon as I got him home I'd go to my local pets at home and buy a new one.
I'd seen these ones before and although the price was abit more than I wanted to pay I knew I'd get my moneys worth.
He fits in perfectly and it's much easier as you can just put them in the top instead of trying to push them in the front. It comes with a cusion pad thing which he seemed to like and it saved me putting a towel or something similar in.
I've not used the water bowl as I've only ever used it for the vets but it's a nice addition should you need to travel further. You could also put some dried food in it.

I'd definitely recommend this, it's worth the money. You can feel it's well made and will last a long time and the cat wouldn't escape in any way. My cat also seemed to meow less when in the car when in this carrier.
