Worst Degu Cage

This cage is for use with my two degu's. Originally I thought it was brilliant, until I realised how much they like running around and playing. The pull out tray is possibly the only useful thing about this cage and to be honest if your planning on keeping two animals in this together be it degu's or other animals then find a better cage. The only door is far to small and near impossible to get your arm to the end of the cage to clean the shelves. If I had known at the time i would have ensured I had a better cage for my two boys to play in. There is definatly not enough room for them and I am looking for a much bigger better cage for them which I wont be getting at pets at home. The down fall tot he tray is that the degu's can kick their poop and saw dust out of the cage so you have to hover 2 or more times aday with them.

Way too small

The cage is alright when your degus are still small, but after a few months this cage would be way too small. I was gutted when I found out I've been missold this cage when they told me it would be ideal for degus. After some research I found out it certainly isn't. I wouldn't recommend this cage for degus, it's very hard to clean due to the small entrance, I can't reach the shelves. Also, the tray is to low, my degus kick out all the hay and wood shavings and I have to vacuum the floor at least twice a day.

I bought this cage over a year ago as my chinchillas needed to be separated. The occupant of this cage loves to be out and ruling the house therefore uses this to sleep & eat in mainly. Spacious enough as he has the run of the house whenever he can, having used several cages in the past this is THE BEST for cleaning. Sure it only has one door so access to the left is limiting but nothing a hoover can't get to. The wooden selves are durable, he's an eager to chew but hasn't left much of a mark. The wiring allows toys to be placed anywhere. The separate tray is a dream for any pet owner, allowing the chinchilla to remain in his comfort and not having to be disturbed. It won't corrode if you use a paper lining underneath the sawdust / litter. I'm not one for plastic tacky cages so this is ideal for the purpose it serves. :-)

Brought the cage home set it up and noticed the flimsy design. The cage construction is of a poor grade of wire and in my opinion, too thin for chinchilla use but the size of the cage was ideal as he is one of the smaller breads, the other problem that we found was that the cage needed to be mounted off the floor as he is used to being in a taller cage and enjoyed that extra height. This posed a problem too, because the base is bare metal and it easily scratches anything it stands on.
Cleaning the cage regularly I noticed the bottom of the cage starting to rust very quickly, this I believe is due to urine corroding the metal. I also found it difficult to clean the hay from inside due to the door being hinged too far to the right.
A positive feature of the cage is the tray at the base which can be positioned in two difference locations; I found it easier to put the tray in the bottom under the wire as this keeps the chin from standing in his own urine and less fuss when cleaning.

This product is far too small for degus. They need a lot of floor space to be able to run around and play as they forage throughout the day in their natural habitat. A recommended cage for two degus is 100cmx50cmx150cm with several full levels. Please, if you love you animal, look into getting an Xtrail/Aventura/Liberta Explora/Savic Royal Suite (they are all basically the same cage but be careful for metal and plastic trays).

The design of the product is very poor, not only is it ugly looking but the tray is not deep enough so my two Degu's just keep throwing sawdust and poop all over the floor.

Bought this for my two degus, they have enough space in this to run and play and with some extra added shelves they enjoy climbing all over it. The bad points to this cage though are that it is very difficult to clean all the shelves properly and inside the cage at the back as it only opens at the front right hand side and this is a very small entrance. I find myself having to press my shoulder against the cage to try and get my entire arm in to clean the back and side shelves. It is extremely difficult to do.

Also after reading up on Degus they need a solid base as they can develop foot problems with walking on mesh all the time. This means a lot of paper/card over the wire bottom to protect them which totally defies the point of have a shelf underneath to catch all of the mess.
If the small issues don't concern you it is a good first time cage for 2 degus.

i have had the cage not long and my rats love it to bits as they where in a plastic on befor witch was horrible not easy to clean as this one is . There is so much you can do with the cage. best cage i have ever had. thinking off getting go for it.

I think it's an OKAY cage, it's very over priced, it looks very ugly. When the animal pees on the wood, it becomes very smelly too. Not much room for toys either, would only be ideal for maybe one chinchilla at the most, but not very fair on the animal, or maybe 2 degus. I don't like this cage very much, I don't use it for my chinchilla anymore, would not buy again. I brought a much bigger cage for only £15 more and it's much better quality and looks a lot nicer.

Rescued a Chin & got given this cage & it is stunning, got loads of toys & hammocks in it for Gizmo & he even has his flying saucer in there, not sure I would keep anymore than two in it but then common sense would tell you just from looking at it how many animals would be happy.
