Pastoral dog breed

Pastoral dogs are traditionally bred to live and work on farms by herding and guarding livestock, and consequently they have strong protective instincts. While they are brave in the face of intruders and predators, they tend to be gentle around families and protective of children. They require plenty of regular exercise and room to run around, and may not be well-suited to city or suburban life. Some breeds, like the Old English Sheepdog, have long shaggy coats that need regular brushing and grooming.
