As a successful, rapidly- growing business we need great people, and we tend to find that great people develop great careers with Pets at Home. We have plenty of career possibilities for people with ambition, drive and a passion for grooming.

Find out exactly what learning and career development opportunities we provide for each of our roles in our Groom Rooms.

Assistant Stylists

All Assistant Stylists complete an induction in the grooming salon which covers health and safety, bathing, de-matting, breed and coat recognition, dog behaviour and first aid. We’ll also introduce you to our grooming portfolios, which are designed to enable salons to highlight areas where Assistant Stylists excel, as well as identifying areas for their development.

We offer a comprehensive in-house training programme, made up of 3 levels: Prep It, Clip It and Snip It! This nine-month course is designed to develop our Assistant Stylists’ grooming skills, starting with bathing and brushing skills, then moving onto clipping dogs and eventually developing scissoring skills, so you can style pooches with fabulous results every time!

Stylists

Stylist inductions, carried out in the salon by the Salon Manager, cover information about our operating procedures as well as an insight into our grooming portfolios. These portfolios are designed for grooming salons to highlight areas where Stylists excel, as well as identifying areas for development.

We offer various in-house training courses which are designed to provide our Stylists with a broader skillset and keep you up to date with the latest trends. Some of these courses involve cat grooming, first aid and breed-specific courses.

Salon Managers

Salon Manager inductions are carried out in a local salon, and cover everything that you need to know about our operating procedures - even enabling you to shadow an experienced Salon Manager for a couple of weeks. The Salon Manager’s role involves much more than simply being a fantastic groomer, so you’ll be provided with a workbook to complete which covers all of the additional responsibilities such as driving sales, commerciality, rota planning and building and developing teams.

We also offer a Pet Care Trust Level 3 grooming certificate. This is a City and Guilds Level 3 diploma, a nationally accredited qualification which covers all of the higher technical skills involved in grooming.

We offer various in-house training courses which are designed to provide our Salon Managers with a broader skillset and keep you up to date with the latest trends. Some of these courses involve cat grooming, first aid and breed-specific courses.

We are keen to train each Salon Manager to be a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) in dispensing licensed medicines, and this comes with a financial reward as part of our “Earn as you Learn” scheme.

Other things that we do!

We carry out in-house creative styling courses which are demand-driven, and are aimed at keeping our Groom Room teams up to date with the latest trends.

We also offer courses for our left handed stylists, which are carried out by an external trainer.
