i have 2 male rats in this cage and they have plenty of room. The cage comes with all the basics you need. It has lasted so far 4 months and is in fairly good condition other than a bit of damage on the ramps from being chewed. The only problem i have is I find it very difficult to clean on my own as it can be hard to get the top on and off the base. For the sake of £15 i would probably go for the bigger version though, unfortunately it was out of stock when i went.

Had a few problems when buying the cage, it dont come with the hammock or the water bottle holder, and 2 screws to hold the platform on, by the time i set it up and realized it was missing the rats were already in there, i went back to pets at home and i couldnt get new ones unless i took the cage appart and returned it, which was just too much hassle. But appart from that i love the cage, hasnt rusted like any of the other cages that i had, and plenty of room for my 3 boys x

This was an ok cage to house my ferret when he first arrived, as a kit. A few weeks in however, it was clear that the cage was far too small. He was frustrated and bored without space to play. He gets a lot of time out of his cage and goes for long walks but he still needs toys to stimulate him when he is in his home. No room to hang up extra beds or toys. I found it difficult to clean too, you have to take the whole top off which leaves the litter tray hanging and the brackets/catches in the way when you try and put the top down on the floor or reattach it to the base. The design of the litter tray was enough to push me over the edge - so hard to attach to the sides of the cage and anyone with ferrets/rats knows just how often you need to clean out the litter tray! It needs to be easily accessible. Water bottle leaks very badly, poor design. Food bowl should be a screw to the side affair, rather than a wire attachment. My ferret pulled this off the side everyday and flung it across the cage in sheer frustration. Sure this would be ok as a temporary or travel cage, but for the same price, you can buy much larger, more practical cages with pull out tray bases which a far easier to clean

i love this cage, i got it two years ago for my two rats. they love it and there is plenty of space. i really like the roof because it lifts up. the cage still looks brand new

I bought three little sister rats to go into this cage, the space was good and they had all the basic starter equipment they could need. However, I would not recommend this cage for long term use. Rats love to knaw and if you get one that is slightly obsessed with knawing plastic, you will find you have to replace the cage quickly, in my case it took her one night to knaw two big holes in the base.

iv had rats my whole life and gone through alot of different design cages some looked attractive n big but had bad features you done think about when buying like some would rust the paint would fade quick doors where flimsey and so on but if your homing 2-4 rats(deffinatley not a ferret cage) this is perfect iv had mine for 18 monthes now and i could actauly sell it as new its made with quality has a big spacious door on front and the roof/lid is sooo usefull!!!! i got mine at time for[$] on offer so i had a very good bargain i recommend this higly for rat owners.

This cage is great for rats, I bought it second hand for around half the price and even though it's already been used before it still looks brand new! The cage is lovely and big and yet it doesn't weigh hardly anything, the cage bars are lovely and smooth, the person I bought the cage off said her rats were real nibblers but the cage bars only have a couple of chipped bits of paint. The cage doors are perfect for getting into every nook and cranny and they really come in handy when cleaning the cage out. Overall a really fantastic cage, would give it 100 stars if I could :)

I bought two female ratties from Pets at Home, along with this cage, and honestly this is the best cage I could've bought for them! It's quite spacious for them, lovely design, and a definite pro that is not shown clearly in the picture is it has a small door at the back as well, so you can access your rats/rodents more easily if they're on the bottom level. This cage is perfect for my rats, and I think that it might be able to house one more female, but definitely a maximum of two males, as it only has one small-ish shelf and might be quite a squeeze! It's also great value for money, as I have previously (in the last 2 years) also bought a gerbil/hamster cage for the same amount of money, which was much smaller than this (half the size?) But overall, this is a GREAT product and would definitely reccomend to rat owners!

I reviewed a lot of cages before buying this one and found it a great compromise of all the things I wanted. The best thing is that it is easily accessible to get the rats out and in turn easier to clean etc. It also doesn't contain a lot of other things that are bad for rats i.e. wood parts which if pine are bad for their lungs (rats are prone to lung infections), wired floors (rats have delicate feet and wired flooring can lead to bumble foot - like clubbed feet). It is great for hanging hammocks and adding floors so we have an extra corner level with steps.
I would recommend lots of chews as my girls like to chew the plastic occasionally.
It is a good size for 2-3 (maybe 4 rats) Rats don't like to have masses of space, you have to be careful not to cramp them but not scare them by wide open spaces.

i bought this for my 2 male ferrets, there is plenty of room in it for them both, it is not ideal for keeping them in it all the time, mine sleep in it and its perfect for them
