Reading the 1-2 star reviews on here I find I cannot relate to them. This product is fantastic. Degus are happy using it and after almost 3 months there is no sign of wear/tear. I very much like how the wheel can be taken off the metal stand and placed onto the side of the cage/tank itself.

To anyone finding that the wheel won't turn. Take it apart an you'll find there is chalk dust around the bolt allowing it to turn. So simply redust it. No big deal.

I bought this wheel for my degus and considering it cost nearly £20, it lasted less than 3 weeks. The degus loved running in it however it was not sturdy enough to support them as they ran and consequently soon bent at such an angle that the bottom of the wheel scraped along the floor of the cage. It was very noisy - whether on the cage bars or on the stand it rattled and squeaked a lot. Being plastic, and degus being degus, they managed to eat it pretty quickly too - they loved chewing on the yellow screw on cap in the middle of the wheel! We had to remove the wheel from the cage at night time as even though the degus live downstairs, we were kept awake at night by the loud rattling of the wheel.

I brought this item and was really happy with it. The problem was the degus liked to go on it together and after a couple of months the plastic around the bolt holding it on snapped. Would be ok for one power but a you know most small animals don't like to be alone and I don't think they would read only one at a time sign lol

i have two pet rats. I thought it would be a good way to keep them fit. they didnt use it outside the cage so i put in their cage. i tried putting them on it rewarding treats, but they still didnt want to use!

My degus love their wheel they use it all the time.
the only problem is that the bit where the bolt is has snapped due
too my degus jumping now and then when running.
I have yet to find a wheel that is strong another to withstand my degus.
there are some good points too.
they are quite good wheels.
very fun for them.
i will continue to use them because they're the only wheel i know for degus.

Good, but not brilliant

I bought this for my African Pygmy Hedgehog as they really need a wheel, this was on offer so I bought it.

The pluses: It's very to take apart and clean, which is a must if being used by a Hog, as they use their wheeels as toilets so there is almost always poo or dried wee on it - however it's easy to take apart, wash and then put back together again.
Once I sorted the squeakiness out (..mostly by accidentally dropping it), it was very quiet. Though, my Hog lives in a vivarium so noises are slightly muffled and he uses it at night so we rarely hear him.
The shape and size is great for my Hog as it is easy enough for him to hop in and out on his nightly marathons, the plastic is very solid and doesn't bend/isn't malleable so it doesn't get out of shape when in use.
I also personally like the colour of it.
I've heard about the plastic bits on either side eventually wearing away but I have not seen any signs of this yet.

On a negative note.. It was extremely stiff to begin with - barely moving at all. I couldn't give it to Finn, (my Hedgehog) until I had continuously spun it for about half a day so it would spin with ease.
The stand is rather poorly designed, as it allows the stand and wheel to travel about the cage/vivarium when in use! However, I put a litter tray on top on the stand, so the wheel hangs over it (APHs like to go to the toilet whilst running..) and this made the stand more solid and it no longer moved.
It is quite squeaky as you have to get the tension right with the wingnut and two pieces of plastic either side the stand, but once you have the tension right - the wheel is rather quiet.

This wheel would not last two seconds with my three energetic Degus, but for a slower, less-bounding paced animal, such as my African Pygmy Hedgehog; it's perfect. It's a good size for animals like APHs, Degus, etc. but I wouldn't give this to a Chinchilla. Whether it lasts very long however, is yet to be seen as it has only been in use for about 2 weeks.

I have two Degu's & they love this! I have a Chinchilla so I bought another one, but my Chinchilla didn't seem to like it very much. I have now put the newer wheel into my Degus cage as I think there was a fault, and a piece of plastic missing on the first wheel which caused it to squeak and hang very low off the bars. My Degu's love this, it keeps them entertained all day long. It is pricey but it's definetley worth it, it's large enough for both of my Degu's to play on it at the same time!

I was recommended by Pets at Home staff to buy this to help my chubby rat to loose some weight. I have four rats, two adults, two babies and none of them are interested in it.They did not even investigate it when I first put it in the cage, and I could not even bribe them to go in it with a treat!! On the plus side, as it hasn't been used it hasn't broken, which seems inevitable from these reviews!! Was quite annoyed that staff recommended it for rats when they have no interest in it though,

A terrible product for degus, this should really not be in this section or even marketted at them, heck should not even be on the shelves.

Every single one I have purchased has either stuck, been damaged or simply does not turn. Being plastic they will gnaw away at it and it soon becomes jagged and weakened, especially with three young adult degus.

The size of the wheel and poor construction does not allow them enough space or chance to get up to a full speed run so therefore it serves no purpose.

Strongly recommend to anyone reading this review, do not even consider and if you can afford it, look at a sturdier metallic one,
