Terrible instructions

Absolutely terrible instructions on how to set this up, I had to read all these comments and then experiment in order to make it work! However once it did work, it was effective for my small 19L tank. My rosy barbs weren't too keen though!

I bought the large one of these and had no problem using it. It is very effectine and its amazing how much waste in in the gravel even when your tank water looks crystal clear!

may not be suitable if you are using sand rather than gravel as the syphon might suck up your sand!

Tips for getting this to work easily for those who have never syphoned stuff before:

*make sure the pipe is securly and tightly fitted to the top of the gravel cleaner. Syphon will not work if either the pipe is split, the connection to the gravel cleaner is loose or the gravel cleaner head is cracked or otherwise broken.

* When starting the flow of water, ensure the gravel cleaning end is in open and unobstructed water (ie dont embed the cleaning end in the gravel as you will find it very difficult if not impossible to start the flow). Once the flow has started, then you should start cleaning the gravel.

*Make sure that the gravel cleaning end is higher than the other end of the pipe (where the water wll come out of). The greater the height difference, the easier you will find it to get the water flow started.

*The gravel cleaning end should be moved up and down vertically and briskly as if you were pumping a dynamite plunger until the flow starts. If you are doing it right you should only need to do this 5 or 6 times. Moving it diagonally or horizontally will not work very well or at all.

*Dont be tight fisted! Buy the correct size for the tank you have (a small one will cost you slightly less, but is going to be no use for a 200 litre tank! I have a 64litre tank and purchased the large version and it works fine.
If you have a really big or deep tank, then this item might not be suitable even in the large size as the syphon hose might not be long enough to be effective.

*Be careful not to suck up any small fish in your aqaurium as this is quite easy to do if you are not paying attention to what you are doing.

Does what it should

I have the large one of these for my 125L tank and it works perfectly.

To get this to work you first need to submerge the tube and then turn upwards so all the air bubbles rise out of it. Then turn downwards and you may have to pump a few times for the water to start flowing. *The pipe must be vertical or you will not create the vacuum needed*
I am used to this type of gravel cleaner but I did find the instructions provided on the packaging were not very good..

Only issue is that sometimes it gets slightly clogged with gravel if you do not allow it to fall back into the tank - A guard would have been good.

at first i thought it was rubbish but then after a lot of furious shaking
it worked better than well all you have to do after that is put it on the gravel and be amazed at how well it works

Poor Product

Done everything it says on packaging instructions... And what other reviews have said to try, still can't get any water to come out ... So far not worth the money... Very disappointed especially after the aquarium store employee give it the Hard sell...

Do not buy

This piece of equipment just does not work. I followed the exact instructions several times without success and then tried the suggestions that other reviewers had made (which were very different to what was on the packaging) and it was still ineffective. What is the point in a product that you have to disregard manufacturers instructions and have to find your own way with?. It was incredibly frustrating and a lot of messing about for absolutely nothing. I have been told that a gravel cleaner with a hand squeezing device is much more effective and so I will buy an alternative product and put it down to bad experience. I definitely would not recommend this product.

Despite being the cheapest gravel cleaner I think its a very good product.
I thought my tank was really clean so was very surprised when I looked in my bucket once Id cleaned my gravel, it had taken out loads of waste.
Its easy to use and can quite easily clean all my gravel in one go

I found that you have to take the end nozzle off so it becomes just a tube then shake it up and down in the water for a couple of seconds, and there you have it and perfectly working flow of water !

Luckily I had read the reviews before using this product. Do not try to follow the instuctions on the packaging they do not work.
1. Submerge the whole suction head in the tank at an angle till all the air has bubbled out.
2.Turn the head the right way up while lowering the tube into the bucket. make sure the bucket is below the level of your tank. suction should start straight away.
3.Work methodically and quickly allowing the gravel to suck up into the head then fall back down. Do not suck to much gravel up at once or it can block the waterflow into the tube.
