I installed Two of these, one in the Kitchen door leading out to the conservatory and one on the back door of the conservatory leading onto the garden, both are now broken, the one installed on the back door is now just a hole in the door. The one in the kitchen only has the main flap left the two bits one either side of the dog flap that are there to keep out the draft are broken off.

all in all the plastic used for the whole thing is not suitable for a dog flap

I have two Border Terriers (not buffalo)

Draughty & breaks, but spares available

As others have said, the flap is not draught proof, made worse by the external U-frame snapping very quickly, so there is no longer any magnetic catch. The good news, however, is that Staywell sell these parts from their website.

Our orignal whippet girl was a rescue, thus meaning was too scared to ask us to go out. This was our livesaver! She learnt how to use it really quickly and it lasted a few years too! Not bad when you have 30mph whippet hitting it, around 5 times per day minimum!!

We have since got two more dogs, and ok it has needed replacing twice since but its had 3 times the use! We don't have a problem though, just contact Staywell, and they've given us new FREE replacements each time and been really helpful.

So yes like all plastic items out in the elements it does get a little brittle and crack, but Staywell are so good at replacing we have no issues what so ever!

Had it fitted for about 18 months and still no problems. My dog is a westie who flys in and out of it with no problems. If it does break I would not hesitate to buy another one. I have never had a draft problem. I have just removed it from a wood panel to fit in a cavity wall. I did consider replacing it but it is still in A1 condition.

The draft is such a big issue, flap not weighted enough and just a small amount of wind has the flap open. Trouble is I cannot find an alternative product therefore I am stuck with renewing this one!!

Has been in use by small cat and 2 small-medium dogs. Current dog is a Border Terrier x Staffie so small in size but very solid. Only has one speed (medium to fast). I had fitted the soft version which lasted cat and dog #1 4 years. Dog #2 broke that in a month. Fitted hard flap. Dog #2 broke that in 3 weeks.

I agree with the previous persons comments but unfortunately will probably have to get the same one again to fit in the hole cut in my door.

Not only did the flap break but the plastic surround piece that had the magnet in broke off completely. The plastic is quite sharp as well so when it breaks it could hurt your dog.

There are very few Dog flaps on the Market Staywell seem to have the monopoly. We have know got through two of these dog flaps in 12 mths. ( one only lasted 2 mths) We have a Beagle and a Jack Russel so not huge dogs. Well with in the sepcified weight range. However when the dogs see a Bird in the Garden they charge at the flap full speed. The Stay well flap just isnt man enough for the job and soon breaks. I would not recommend this product for any one with an active dog. Find an Aluminum one if you can they are stronger
