A good starter kit; heatmat too large

This is a good product and was very near to 4 stars for me. We bought it for our new Cali Kingsnake.

It is well built and easy to get ready for your pet, although the instructions are rubbish. It comes with thermostat and heat mat which is great.

However, the heat mat covers 2/3rd of the length, making the creation of a temperature gradient difficult. The heat mat is 10x12 inches which is perfect for the 24" terranium however with the 18", which is this starter kit, is just too big. I've had to buy an additional 7x12" mat and use that. As the smaller mat is cheaper, they are being a bit too generous here in my opinion (however a larger heat mat may be right for lizards etc. but I'm not sure).

Its also a little on the short side for me. A couple more inches in height would be great and give room for some proper climbing items to be put in.

Its worth getting in my opinion, but a few extra tweaks and this would have been easy 4/5 stars

i got product today in preparation for a corn snake. I bught this as its £30 more than standalone and exactly the same except you get a heat mat, thermometer with batteries and a thermostat that is on here at £24.99... it is already assembled in the box, just slide the heat mat between the glass, plug into the thermostat and then plug that in and it warms up. it also has locks on side to lock your pet in so they dont get out! Slight (very very slight however) it does not come with a little cave but it dont matter as theyre cheap tobuy... i know it dont come with substrate as it can be used for leopard geckos or snakes and they have different substrates... Anyway great product!!!

Very good for my juvenile corn snake - lasted him till he was almost 2 before upgrading. Still like new after 18 months. Excellent heating design. Insulated base.
Great starter kit but could use better instructions.
