Please contact these stores directly to check for availability before travelling.Palm Geckos are easy lizards to keep and make great pets for older children and adults. Although nocturnal they will become active when the main room or vivarium lights are off in the evening. Smaller geckos can be delicate so younger children must be supervised when handling them they are much quicker than other Gecko species such as Leopards or Crested geckos. Palm geckos live for about 6-10 years. They do not get too big, with a maximum size of 20 to 25cm. Palm geckos will eat a mixture of foods including powdered foods mixed with water or suitable pureed fruits, and live insects.
Males will sometimes call, making almost a quacking or squeaking noise, especially if they are courting a female. They are nocturnal and can sometimes make quite a bit of noise moving through foliage late at night so may not be suitable for a bedroom.
Palm Geckos do not have the same needs for company as many mammals and will be quite happy on their own. It is usually not possible to sex them when they are very small but older juvenile male Palm geckos can be sexed by looking for a row of pores along the underside of the gecko, just above the vent and along the thighs. Some geckos may take longer to develop these than others but sexing from 8-12 months old is usually non-problematic. When they mature adult males will fight and will need to be separated. Females will usually live happily together in a very spacious vivarium.
All vets have a basic understanding of reptiles but those with a specialist interest are worth seeking out. Insurance against unexpected veterinary costs is available in just the same way as it is for cats and dogs.
