Uromastyx are relatively easy lizards to keep, and can make great pets for older children and adults. They are medium-sized lizards, but usually quite easy to handle and have lots of character. Smaller Uromastyx can be delicate so younger children must be supervised when handling them. These lizards are diurnal, which means they are active during the day, and can live for around 15+ years. They do not need a great deal of space and their needs can be easily met in any modern home. There are a number of different species of Uromastyx and their maximum size of around 85 cm can be achieved within about 12-18 months for some forms of Uromastyx, the more commonly kept Uromastyx species will reach a maximum length of 30 cm.
A healthy Uromastyx will be bright eyed, active and searching for food during the day and have strong legs.
