Not as good as it looks !

Bought this as it looked good, strong and robust. It isn't, within 2 days it has developed a split in the leather. Should have remembered how disappointed we've been with other Wainwright products, won't be buying any more of them

After comparing several colars, I settled for this particular one for my westiepoo puppy. Admittedly, it did seem a bit bulky compared to some but it looked comfortable.Initially I was very pleased with my purchase, it was a little more expensive than the others on display but it was made from leather which was soft and appeared to be excellent quality and my puppy found it comfortable to wear. Surprisingly, only a couple of days after purchase, I examined the colar and discovered that the stitching had snapped in several places and was dropping out. Maybe this was due to the leather being so soft that the stitches were inevitably being stretched when the dog was pulling on his lead and thereby had become unravelled. Consequently, I returned the colar to the store [...] (I purchased an entirely different style of colar this time as I would have expected the original colar to last much longer than just two days!)

I bought this collar for my scottish terrier. I was a bit worried that it would be too wide but he seems to like it and it appears to be comfortable - it certainly is very attractive and soft. I found like other reviewers that the the lack of a loop for the excess length of the collar was a problem. I solved it by making a loop from the real leather tag which was on the collar when I bought it - I don't know how long this will last and it would be better if Wainwrights would provide one.

I use a small cable tie

I dont know if this is any help to people who use elastic bands to secure excess collar. I have a now 5 month old puppy who obviously keeps growing. So I have attached a small cable tie to the collar pulled tight then cut tie. It has been on for last 4 months and works fine. Obviously not ideal the manufacturer should come up with a proper system. When my puppy is fully grown i intend to get a collar that fits properly. Unless this issue is addressed by the manufcturer it will not be 1 of these.

Could be 5* but let down by the detail

Potentially this could have been the best collar my dogs have had but unfortunately I have experienced the same problems as other purchasers. No loop to feed excess collar length through. Tried a rubber band but this rubbed and trapped dogs fur. Will try wider rubber band now. This shouldn't be needed with a collar costing so much. Also poor split ring to attach tag.
My biggest disapointment though is the fact that the manufacturers have done nothing to rectify the problems and improve the product, despite most reviewers reporting the same issues. That's not good customer service. Because of this I could not recommend the product or manufacturer to friends.

The leather loop to pass the remainder of the collar length through once buckled it needs a second loop as the tail flops about. This can easily get caught. The collar need a movable loop or better still a second loop to retain it.

Bough two of these collars, one small for my patterdale x and one medium for my springador.The leather is beautifully soft and supple. The collars have both worn incredibly well with no loss in looks or suppleness considering my dogs are in and out of our lake on a daily basis as well as regularly digging to australia, rolling in horse [...].etc etc you name it, they're in it! I've not had to oil/clean or anything since i bought them either (probably should now i think about it though!)4/5 stars as:Only downside i would say it that (as other people have mentioned) due to the lack of more sizes it's a one or the other situation and your dog may be too big for one size BUT only fit the next size up on the tightest hole leaving you with a lot of excess leather sticking out as there's only one fixed bit for sticking it in, (could do with another moving slot for the end of the collar?). Easily fixed with a few small black elastic bands (horse plaiting ones or ones for girls hair), barely noticeable!Also the name tab will come off as the ring is not v strong HOWEVER a solution to this is: get your dog microchipped with an engraved metal tag (that cannot perish unlike paper) stating they are chipped on one side and your surname and telephone number on the other. Then if they go missing, anybody can contact you via the number and your surname without being able to steal your dog as it hasn't got the dogs name on the tag and also no blackmailing as they only have your number and not your address. I'm aware of the law on this matter (address etc) but if your dog is chipped then a proper authority can find all those details in minutes anyway. Replace the paper this collar comes with with the metal tag (which come on much stronger split links anyway. Simples.A NOTE OF CAUTION:Bear in mind a microchip isn't always obvious as they can move about a lot (for those who get it done but don't put a tag on the collar etc). I help at a rescue kennels and recently a straying dog was brought in, scanned (with no chip found) and subsequently rehomed after the mandatory weeks wait in kennels. The new owner arranged for the dog to be neutered and it was only at this stage that the vet then found the microchip from the previous owners near the dogs elbow!

This collar is wonderful, the leather is lovely and soft, but it is also very strong. The only problem is that the name tab is attached with a very flimsy wire and so falls off quite easily.

I have come accross many dog collars in my time as an owner. However, i can honestly say this lead is as good as it gets. It has a small capsule with paper on which you give details of where you live or issues regarding your dog.
