Our 16 year old cat Poppy was loosing weight and after a blood test was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid her level was 186. The vets wanted her on medication straight away but I didn't want to stress her out. I was advised about Hills food but the vet was very sceptical that it would work effectively enough. After 2 months, first month was just the biscuits and then I've given mixture of the pate style food and biscuits, thyroid levels are now 50 which is the higher end of normal. We have a 3 month reprieve before her next blood test and the vet wants her levels at 15 to 30 but we can do it

My 13 year old cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at the start of this year. She had been losing a lot of weight and being sick a lot. Once the blood results showed she had hyperthyroidism, we did some research and considered trying this food but the vests discouraged us and told us to either start her on medication, operate on her to remove the thyroid gland or try iodine therapy. We decided to try her on the expensive medicine and although initially she responded well and gained weight, after a couple of months her white blood cells were raised and the vets told us she was having a bad reaction and she had to come off the medication. We asked the vet again about the food but again were discouraged and told it rarely works and they had only seen it work in a couple of cases. We were told to choose between an operation or iodine treatment. Our cat is very nervous and the thought of her being taken away for a few weeks to have the iodine treatment was concerning and the option of an operation was also risky at her age (& were told it may not even work!) so we thought we would try her on the food and see what happened. She can be very fussy so we didn't hold much hope but to our surprise she eats the dry and wet version of this food and within a couple of months has put on a good amount of weight and her blood count shows the food is working to combat her hyperthyroidism. I would recommend to anyone who's cat is diagnosed with hyperthyroidism to try this food as a first treatment line. Our vets made us feel guilty for wanting to try this rather than medicate/ operate but I am so glad we gave it a go. It is a much less invasive treatment and kinder for our cats. I do wonder if vets know this works but are told to discourage it..

My cat is 13 and was recently diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. After an initial blood test his thyroid reading was 175. Apparently over 55 is considered high. He went on to medication but after 2 weeks started to react badly. The very suggested trying this food. I bought the wet and dry and only four weeks later after his second blood test his reading is 44!! And he’s gained a little weight. I would never have believed it could make that much difference but I’m so very pleased.

My 16 yr old tabby lost alot of weight and it took a battery of tests to confirm that her thyroid was making her very ill. She has been on Hills Thyroid for a year. It was a choice between Hills Thyroid or having her take 3 essential thyroid tablets a day, which most will know is a near impossibility to administer to an unwilling kitty. Maxie bounced back and enjoys her special Hills very much. Hills Thyroid saved and has given our old Dame a new lease on life.
