What are fish points?
Fish points are an easy to use guide to help you determine which and how many fish are suitable for your tank. All fish are scored based on a number of factors such as size, how much waste they produce and whether they prefer to shoal in small or large groups. Your aquarium needs to be big enough for the size your fish could grow to.

How to use:

Wipe the inside of your tank with a clean damp cloth to remove any dust. Put your gravel in a colander and rinse under cold water. Rinse any ornaments that you are going to add to your tank. Place gravel in the bottom of the tank, 5cm at the back, 3cm at the front. Add your ornaments to your tank. Fill the tank 3/4 full with lukewarm tap water. Ask and adult to install the filter following the instructions provided (this cleans the water). Fill your tank with more lukewarm water up to 2-3cm from the top. Ask an adult to add the water conditioner to the water, following the instructions on the pack. Ask an adult to turn on the filter. You now need to leave the filter running overnight. After this time the tank will be ready for your fish. Regular cleaning of product is recommended. Rince with clean water and gently wipe dry with microfiber cloth.

Product Care:

  1. Fill the aquarium to ensure there are no leaks (best done outside if possible).
  2. Ensure the floor and surface beneath the aquarium are perfectly level and flat.
  3. Position the aquarium away from sources of noise such as speakers or TVs.
  4. Choose a location away from draughts or sources of warmth or heat.
  5. Avoid placing the tank near strong natural light sources which can encourage algae growth.
  6. Add your fish safe gravel and any decor before filling the tank and adding fish.
  7. Whenever you add tap water to the aquarium, use tap safe to remove harmful chemicals.
  8. Once the tank is filled, turn on equipment overnight to bring the water to the right temperature. Whenever you add fish, use a filter boost product to help establish the good bacteria your filter needs to process fish waste.
  9. Add fish a few at a time and build up gradually over several months to prevent causing water quality issues.
  10. We would advise carrying out water testing before adding new fish to your existing aquarium (which we offer as a free service).
  11. DO NOT try to lift or move an aquarium containing water or gravel as this can cause pressure which could cause it to crack.

Warnings and Safety:

Please refer to the full instruction manual inside the packaging before use. For yours and your pet's safety, examine the aquarium from time to time for damage. The filter must be replaced immediately if signs of damage are noted. This is a functional item and is not suitable or intended as a child's toy. Ensure that it is positioned out of the reach of young children.

Never release aquarium fish or plants into the wild as this can cause harm to the countryside, wildlife and your pet. If you can no longer care for your fish, please speak to your local store about ways we can help them to find a new home.

    • Filter is rubbish and fish died

Bought this fish tank for my daughter for her 7th birthday. It's a lovely size for her bedroom and we were given a lot of helpful advice from Lee and Alex in the Chelmsford branch. We did weekly water changes, but after a few weeks we noticed that some of the fish were hiding at the bottom of the tank, looking quite unwell. The filter wasn't producing the same level of bubbles so we went to the shop to ask for advice. We were told we could take off the air bubble tube and if there is rippling on the surface of the water then that was fine. We did this and a few days later one of the snails died then a couple of days later, to my daughters horror she found one of her fish was floating vertically and had turned black. She was very upset. We went back to the shop with a sample of the water, which was tested and showed the water was not the right condition for fish and this was due to the filter not working properly. I would not recommend this fish tank and don't think pets at home should sell a tank with an inadequate filter. We have purchased a new filter and was even recommended to buy a new tank with a built in filter… I would've hoped the tank we bought would last more than 1 month!
