Which lamp should I choose? Choosing the correct ShadeDweller will allow you to provide the correct provision of UVB to species such as (but not limited to): Leopard Geckos, Day Geckos, Amphibians, Inverts, Hatchling Snakes. The ShadeDweller 7% UVB has been designed around the needs of crepuscular species such as Leopard Geckos. The fixture is intended to be placed at a distance of 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) from the basking spot. This positioning allows the animal to obtain essential UV energy in a safe and effective manner. However, for those who keep these species in smaller or more shallow enclosures where the optimal distance for the ShadeDweller 7% UV-B is not achievable or keep crepuscular Arboreal species and choose to decorate the top of the enclosure, the ShadeDweller-Arboreal 2.4% fitting becomes a better choice. The effectiveness of this fixture depends on factors such as the distance to the basking area, the species' climbing ability, and the requirement of a smaller area of UV energy.
