Bulldogs are sturdy and resilient breed although may develop hip and joint conditions, skin irritations and heart conditions. As a brachycephalic breed they are also susceptible to overheating and some dogs may experience breathing and eye issues. Excellent skin and coat condition and a good digestive function are important for large breed dogs and are a sign of overall general good health. Important information:

Care & behaviour: Bulldogs require an effective care routine along with good food nutrition to help manage their skin and coat condition, body size and general wellbeing.

Grooming: Brush weekly to encourage natural oil release and remove any excess hair (regularly clean facial skin folds to prevent infection).

General health & teeth: Check eyes regularly to ensure they are clear, clean, and healthy looking. Check for signs of weight gain by weighing regularly (split daily food amounts across two regular meal times and allow for any treats within this daily amount). Regularly check dental hygiene (training to accept teeth brushing as a puppy will help maintain oral health).

Exercise & play: Typically 30-60 minutes moderate exercise per day (in hot weather take care not to over exert them). Bulldogs can be gentle, loving family dogs, they need socialisation with both humans and other dogs from an early age (they can be stubborn so start training early and persevere!).
