When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Dietetic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline.

Growing kittens, pregnant or nursing cats.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): IRIS Stage 2 (non-proteinuric). IRIS Stages 3-4 All. IRIS stages with proteinuria. Acute kidney insult. Uremic encephalopathy.

  • Appetite has returned

    Our Vet recommended a change to early renal food, so we gradually changed from whiskers/Felix/Gourmet Perle to Hills Early renal food. The wet food has a softer texture than previous foods, our cat was a bit of a jelly/gravy licker, leaving behind the lumps but so far he has finished the bowl 98% of the time. He also behaves like a greedy cat again meowing and pawing at the food cupboard. Much more expensive but it seems worth it as wastage is very low.
